Cillian Murphy says 'Peaky Blinders' film is 'close'

Cillian Murphy has given fans an update on the upcoming Peaky Blinders film.

During an interview on Today FM, the Irish actor was asked how things were developing on the much anticipated film sequel to the BBC crime series and he said the script was 'close' to being completed.

The Batman Begins star continued: "I’ve still not read it [the script] but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television."

Murphy added: “The television part of the story is finished.

"If there’s more stories to tell, I’m there I just haven’t read it yet but it’s close apparently”

Peaky Blinders concluded with its sixth season earlier this year but series creator Steven Knight has since teased a new series set in the 1950's.

Knight said to the BBC: “I think after the film, we will look at [it]. It would be me sort of launching possible new stories into the ’50s, and then I would hand over the baton of writing and creating the thing to other people.

"But if there is an appetite for the world then it will continue.”

Peaky Blinders was partly based on a real life gang from 1920's Birmingham and grew to include a vast ensemble cast that included Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham, Anya Taylor-Joy and Paddy Considine.

The show also featured Helen McCrory before her death from breast cancer during the filming of the sixth season.

While receiving critical acclaim for much of its run, Peaky Blinders was also criticised for its historical inaccuracy particularly around real life figures such as Winston Churchill, Jessie Eden and Oswald Mosley.
