‘Bride Of Frankenstein’ remake very relevant in the Me Too era
David Koepp has provided an update on the upcoming remake of Bride Of Frankenstein, saying that his script feels incredibly relevant in the Me Too era.
Koepp has been tasked with bringing the iconic and classic 1935 sci-fi horror film to a modern audience, and he recently told Bloody Disgusting that he’d just given Universal his latest drat around a month ago.

Thankfully, they “seem to really like it,” too. So much so that they’re already “talking to directors” about overseeing Bride Of Frankenstein.
But Koepp didn’t stop there, though, as he gave some insight into the themes that Bride Of Frankenstein will cover, while also detailing why the remake is so relevant in the current climate.
“It’s become the story of how are we extending our lives; can we create life, can we cheat death? It only gets more and more relevant over time. The big life extension work right now that’s being out in Silicon Valley is overwhelming, impressive and scary, and I feel like a present day version of that is begging to be made.”

“The other thing is she is a woman who is not created but resurrected, and certain people feel ownership over her, and that almost too relevant today in the era of #metoo. What are her rights as a person, the person that exists, if you were dead? There are a lot of really interesting questions that are raised.”
In fact, Koepp even went as far as to say that he hopes Bride Of Frankenstein will be the latest example of “horror effortlessly lending itself to metaphor,” something that classics of the genre have always done.
