Bond 25 may have found director in Sherlock's Paul McGuigan
The 25th Bond movie sounds like it may have found its new director – in ‘Sherlock’ helmsman Paul McGuigan.
According to Indiewire, the Scottish-born director is in line to take over from Sam Mendes in the director’s chair, after her helmed both ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Spectre’.
Reports suggest that Bond producers Eon, who hired him for its latest movie ‘Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool’, have been very impressed with his handling of the project.
The understatedly star-studded movie finds Annette Benning’s eccentric Oscar-winner falling in love with a young actor, played by Jamie Bell, with supporting roles for Julie Walters, Vanessa Redgrave, Kenneth Cranham, Stephen Graham and Frances Barber.
As well as ‘Sherlock’ and the latest Eon movie, McGuigan was also responsible for episodes of ‘Luke Cage’ for Marvel, US political drama with Kiefer Sutherland ‘Designated Survivor’ and movies like ‘Lucky Number Slevin’ and ‘Gangster No. 1’.
He also made the recent ‘Victor Frankenstein’ with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe.
With a possible director now lining up, it could be that fans are that little bit closer to discovering whether Daniel Craig will be back for a final stint as Bond.
It’s also said that the Bond series is now the subject of a five studio bidding war between Warner Bros, Fox, Universal, indie studio Annapurna and Sony, though it’s thought that Sony may have the upper hand.
All that’s known for sure so far is that writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are penning the script, having written all the Bond movies since ‘The World Is Not Enough’ in 1999.
