Blade Runner 2049: Harrison Ford's Deckard returns in sequel's first teaser
The first trailer for ‘Blade Runner 2049’ has been released by Warner Bros. and it’s pretty impressive. Watch it above.
Featuring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, directed by Denis Villeneuve fresh from his ‘Arrival’ success, and produced by Ridley Scott, ‘Blade Runner 2049’ looks set to be as stylish and inventive as the 1982 original.
The weird, glitchy soundtrack – presumably by ‘Arrival’ composer Jóhann Jóhannsson – combined with the gorgeous Roger Deakins cinematography instantly puts us back into the neo-noir world we last visited over 30 years ago.
Ford’s quote “Replicants are like any other machine, they’re either a benefit or a hazard”, lifted from Scott’s original film, plays over footage of Gosling’s character (LAPD Officer K) stalking a non-more Blade Runner-y street.
We then see him walking through an orange-lit landscape into a building where he confronts Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard who tells him: “I did your job once, I was good at it”, and Gosling responds “things were simpler then”.
We finally get a title treatment and more of Gosling stalking the futuristic streets. Thanks to a leaked synopsis, we now have a better idea of the film’s plot that’s been kept under wraps until now.
Synopsis courtesy of Trailer Track: Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Sounds like they’re taking cues from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ if you ask us.
‘Blade Runner 2049’ is coming to cinemas in 2017.
