Marvel movies have made quite a lot of money for Disney. Since 2008's Iron Man, the cinematic universe's total box office has earned around $30 billion, with Avengers: Endgame earning the most so far by making $2.7bn worldwide.

The impressive box office has not just been good for Marvel — it has also resulted in big pay days for the actors who star in them. While a lot of Marvel's cash has gone into Robert Downey Jr’s wallet, the other Avengers haven’t done too badly out of it either.

In fact, thanks to the impressive box office results of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio has chosen to bring back its biggest star, Downey Jr, for another round after Avengers: Endgame — but this time he'll be playing Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man.

Clearly Robert Downey Jr has the agents all of Hollywood want. His comeback from those ‘troubled’ times in the 1990s crested with Iron Man in 2008, and that was pounced on. The actor's success as Iron Man has seen him be reportedly offered "significantly more" than $80m to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers 5 and 6.

The actor previously scored a ming-boggling $75 million for Iron Man 3, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, after his slice of the profits. It’s said he got as much as $40 million per Marvel movie, and that reputedly included the smaller, non-lead roles in the likes of Captain America: Civil War.

Scar-Jo really put the screws on Marvel for Avengers: Age of Ultron, earning a blistering $20 million payday for her recurring role as Avengers linchpin Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow. The actor went on to score the same pay day for Avengers: Endgame — which was larger than what she earned for her follow up solo movie Black Widow, for which she reportedly received $20m.

According to reports, Chris Evans was rolling in it (though not quite to RDJ standards, perhaps) for Avengers: Endgame as he reportedly earned $20m for the role. This is higher than he reportedly received for Avengers: Infinity Way, with a haul of $6.9 million, which was also better than the $300,000 he was said to have made for the first solo Captain America movie.

He made a trifling (by movie standards) $200,000 for the first Thor movie but thanks to some solid negotiating skills that had been rather inflated to $5 million by the time Age of Ultron came around. But Chris Hemsworth's biggest payday was Thor: Love and Thunder, which saw him earn an impressive $20m.

Being drafted in to replace Edward Norton as Bruce Banner in 2012's The Avengers has proved to be rather fruitful for Mark Ruffalo. He's said to have earned $3m for that movie, with his wages increasing incrementally until it peaked with Avengers: Endgame where is he thought to have been paid $15m.

Samuel L Jackson has appeared as Nick Fury off and on for decades in the MCU, and his first outing saw him earn big money compared to his co-stars at the time. The first Avengers film earned him an impressive $4 to 6 million, likely thanks to his already pretty sturdy stature in Hollywood.
