Spider-Man is one of the 'absolute motherf***ing pornstars' of the MCU, says Ben Mendelsohn

Ben Mendelsohn has said it would’ve been a “disaster” if Spider-Man had been ejected from the MCU, describing the webslinger as the franchise’s most important superhero.

The actor, who portrayed shape-shifting Skrull leader Talos in Captain Marvel, said he was glad that “cooler heads” prevailed in the dispute between Sony and Disney, allowing one of the “absolute motherf***ing pornstars” of the MCU to remain in the universe.

Mendelsohn’s character made a brief appearance in the post-credits scene of this year’s Spidey sequel Far From Home and the actor told Metro he sees the character as a lynchpin of the franchise.

The 50-year-old said: “S*** man, you can’t lose Spider-Man from the Marvel universe. He’s one of their absolute motherf***ing pornstars.

“Boy, I could name 30 [characters] that you could quite comfortably lose before you start thinking about losing Spider-Man.

“In fact, I cannot think of a single character who’s more important to Marvel than Spider-Man.

“You’ve got Hulk, you’ve got Thor… none of them are as important as Spider-Man. None of them.”

He added that “most of the time, cooler heads prevail” in these studio disputes, stating that Spider-Man’s importance to the Marvel empire is enormous.

After an initial impasse that saw the character’s future in doubt, the studios were able to come to an agreement which will allow Tom Holland’s take on the hero to return to the universe.

They are now pushing ahead for a new Spider-Man movie in July 2021, with Holland himself reportedly instrumental in breaking the deadlock.

Mendelsohn is currently promoting his role in historical drama The King, in which he plays King Henry IV.

Timothée Chalamet leads the film as Henry V — Mendelsohn’s character’s son — with Robert Pattinson and Joel Edgerton also playing prominent parts.

Mendelsohn can also be seen soon in Australian film Babyteeth, which has received strong reviews since it debuted on the festival circuit.
