BAFTAs: 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' wins Best Animated Film

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse has won the best animated film prize at the BAFTAs.

Sony’s animated Marvel movie was up against Pixar’s Incredibles 2 and Wes Anderson’s stop-motion Isle of Dogs for the award. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Into The Spider-Verse centres on the world of Miles Morales, a version of Spider-Man not seen on screen before.

Writer Phil Lord said: “We share this with 800 other filmmakers and maniacs who worked really hard to try to break new ground and take animation in new directions, all because we wanted to make a film worthy of Miles Morales, and I hope this encourages other people to do the same.”

Producer Chris Miller shared a photo of himself with the winning trophy on Twitter with the caption “Anyone can wear the mask”.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will compete with Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Mirai, and Ralph Breaks the Internet for the Best Animated Film at the Oscars on 24 February.
