Baftas 2022: When are they, how to watch and who's hosting

The 2022 British Academy Film Awards (Baftas) are approaching, with some of the biggest names in the industry getting ready to celebrate an exciting 12 months in film.

This year, the Baftas are going to be held in-person for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

We've got all the information you need to watch this year's ceremony.

When are the 2022 Baftas?

The EE BAFTA Film Awards will take place on Sunday 13 March at the Royal Albert Hall and broadcast on BBC One, BBC One HD and BBC iPlayer at 7:00pm GMT.

They are held at the Royal Albert Hall, and usually broadcast with an hour delay.

How can I watch the 2022 Baftas?

If you're unable to tune into BBC One, the full ceremony will also be available to watch live on BBC iPlayer and will remain up for a limited time afterwards.

Viewers from outside the UK can tune into a live stream on the BAFTA Facebook page.

Who is hosting the 2022 Baftas?

This year's awards will be hosted by Australian actor and comedian Rebel Wilson.

The 42-year-old Bridesmaids star follows in the footsteps of Dermot O'Leary and Edith Bowman who hosted the main show last year during lockdown.

Who is hosting the Bafta 2022 red carpet?

TV presenter AJ Odudu and comedian Tom Allen have been announced as the red carpet hosts of the Baftas.

The pair will interview the nominees and other special guests as they arrive for the ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday March 13.

Coverage of the carpet will be streamed live across Bafta’s social media channels.

Will the 2022 Baftas have a live audience?

For 2022, all guests have been invited to attend in-person at the Royal Albert Hall.

This marks a stark difference from last year when only the presenters were at the Royal Albert Hall and all the nominees appeared virtually.

Nonetheless, this year may still prove challenging for the academy as it's been announced that the Critics Choice Awards will be held on the same day as the Baftas. The Critics Choice Awards are normally held in January, but the show was rescheduled because of the spread of the Omicron variant at the beginning of the year.

This means stars who have been nominated for awards by both organisations will have to decide which ceremony they're going to attend.

As well as Wilson, a number of celebrities will present individual awards.

It was announced on Friday 4 March that singer and Bafta-nominated actress Lady Gaga will introduce the EE Rising Star Award — the only award voted for by the public as part of the academy's wider ongoing commitment to shine a light on emerging talent.

The winners of all other awards are decided by members of the Academy's Television Committee.

Who is performing at the 2022 Baftas?

Dame Shirley Bassey and actress Emilia Jones will perform during the Bafta awards ceremony, it has been announced.

Dame Shirley, 85, will open this year’s event at the Royal Albert Hall, while Jones — who is nominated for her performance in CODA — will perform during the show.

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, Dame Shirley will deliver a rendition of a 007 theme to be revealed on the night.

Who are the favourites to win awards at Baftas 2022?

The film Dune is leading the way in terms of nominations, with 11 in total.

That's followed by Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog, which has eight, and Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, which has six.

The titles up for Best Film are Belfast, Don’t Look Up, Dune, Licorice Pizza and The Power of the Dog.

The films competing for Outstanding British Film are: After Love, Ali & Ava, Belfast, Boiling Point, Cyrano, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, House of Gucci, Last Night in Soho, No Time to Die, and Passing.

No Time To Die’s Lashana Lynch and West Side Story star Ariana DeBose are among the contenders to be named the next star of the future at the Bafta awards in March.

They have been nominated for the EE Rising Star Award alongside A Quiet Place’s Millicent Simmonds, The King’s Man actor Harris Dickinson and Kodi Smit-McPhee, whose recent credits include Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog.

The category is the only one at the Bafta film awards which is voted for by the public and previous winners include Bukky Bakray, John Boyega, James McAvoy, Kristen Stewart and Tom Hardy.
