The Baftas are almost upon us, with the prestigious British awards ceremony taking place this weekend to celebrate the great work that has been released over the past year.
Awards season is always fun to try and predict, with some films and actors often becoming frontrunners early on in the race. The Baftas is a good indicator of how things will pan out at the Oscars later this year, but who exactly is the favourite to win? Let's dive into it.
Who is the favourite to win the Bafta for Best Actor?
The competition is fierce for this year's Best Actor award, with Cillian Murphy, Paul Giamatti, Bradley Cooper, Barry Keoghan, Colman Domingo and Teo Yoo vying for the prize. They are nominated for Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Maestro, Saltburn, Rustin and Past Lives, respectively.

Given their recent wins at awards ceremonies like the Golden Globes, it is expected that Murphy is most likely to win — and betting company OLBG has given the actor 1/6 odds of winning. The next closest person to win is Giamatti, who also won at the Golden Globes in the comedy category and has been given a 4/1 chance of winning.
Who is the favourite to win the Bafta for Best Actress?
The nominations for Best Actress at the Baftas looks slightly different to the Oscars, with homegrown talent being given more support. For example, Oscars frontrunner Lily Gladstone has not been nominated for a Bafta for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
Emma Stone, Sandra Huller, Carey Mulligan, Margot Robbie, Vivian Oparah and Fantasia Barrino have been shortlisted for the award for their performances in Poor Things, Anatomy of a Fall, Maestro, Barbie, Rye Lane and The Color Purple. Of these actors it is Stone who is the favourite to win, and she has been given 1/4 odds of winning by OLBG.
Who is the favourite to win the Bafta for Best Director?
The nominees for Best Director are Andrew Haigh, Justine Triet, Christopher Nolan, Alexander Payne, Bradley Cooper and Jonathan Glazer for their work on All of Us Strangers, Anatomy of a Fall, Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Maestro and The Zone of Interest. While there are no betting odds for this category we can look towards who awards season has favoured in recent months to explore who might win.
There's several interesting nominees within this category, with Nolan being the director with the most wins under his belt for Oppenheimer in the lead up to the Baftas. This makes him the frontrunner, however Justine Triet received the Palme d'Or at Cannes for her film which also gives her an edge in the race.

Looking at other awards ceremonies it can be surmised that the frontrunners for the prize are Oppenheimer, Anatomy of a Fall and Poor Things which have all been named Best Film at one event or another. The one to have the most wins is Oppenheimer, making it a strong contender to win at the Baftas.
