Classic 'Star Wars' game 'Knights Of The Old Republic' is being turned into a movie
Laeta Kalogridis, producer of Avatar and the writer of Scorsese's Shutter Island and Terminator: Genisys, is working on a new Star Wars movie based on the Knights Of The Old Republic.
Buzzfeed reports that Lucasfilm is working on the first in a potential trilogy of movies in the Old Republic story-world, first seen in the 2003 role-playing video game beloved by fans.
The studio is yet to confirm the report.
Set some 4000 years before the events of the first Star Wars movies, it pits the Jedi Knights against the Sith, and dark lord Darth Malak, a former Jedi.
It also features Bastila Shan as a principle character, a female Jedi Knight who leads a strike team engaged in tackling the Sith uprising.

There is a wealth of material to mine in the Old Republic story-world, featuring wookiees, droids and new planets not yet seen in the Star Wars universe.
Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy suggested in April at the Star Wars Celebration event that it was working towards a project based in the Old Republic.
“Yes, we are developing something to look at,” she said. “Right now, I have no idea where things might fall.”
Lucasfilm confirmed that a new Star Wars movie is slated for release in December, 2022, and that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are to produce it.
It's likely that this will be the Old Republic movie, with veteran filmmaker Kalogridis penning the script, though there's no indication yet who might direct.
Rian Johnson, who made The Last Jedi, is also working on his own potential trilogy of movies, with J.J. Abrams set to wind up the current trilogy with The Rise of Skywalker in December.

Though Disney boss Bob Iger recently said that Star Wars was to go on a 'hiatus', it appears that he may have a different view to most of us of what that means.
As well as all this other Star Wars activity, there's also The Mandalorian series due to land in November.
It will be one of the flagship shows of the new Disney+ streaming platform from the Mouse House, helmed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau.
Starring Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal, it will enter the world of the Mandalorian bounty hunters, and features an impressive cast.
Joining Pascal are MMA star Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Taika Waititi and Werner Herzog.
It will launch on 12 November.
