The sequel has grossed over $1.7billion so far
Avatar: The Way of Water has become the 7th biggest movie of all time, just four weeks after its release.
The sequel has so far grossed over $1.7 billion (£1.395 billion) at the global box office overtaking Jurassic World this weekend.
The first Avatar film is still the highest grossing movie of all time, surpassing Avengers: Endgame when it was re-released in 2021.

Since its release on 16 December, only Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as Endgame and Avatar have grossed more money worldwide.
The Way of Water surpassed $1 billion at the box office in just 14 days, the sixth fastest of all time and five days quicker than its predecessor.
Despite being released only a fortnight before the end of the year, Avatar: The Way of Water finished as the highest grossing film of 2022, ahead of Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion, the only other movies to gross more than $1 billion last year.

The Way of Water is also considered one of the most expensive films ever made with a production budget estimated between $350 and 460 million.
Avatar 3, which wrapped filming in 2020, is expected to be released in December 2024 with work still being done on its visual effects.
The sequel will see the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet as well as new actors Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin.
James Cameron has also confirmed that Avatar 4 and 5 are also in development and that the sequels will keep him busy for the next "six or seven years".
