New look at Anthony Mackie as 'Captain America' as fourth solo film rumoured
Disney+ has launched new artwork for its hit Marvel show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which shows Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America.
The six-part series, which wrapped up last week, culminated with Sam Wilson (Mackie) assuming the Captain America mantle and going into battle with the iconic stars and stripes shield. Chris Evans' Steve Rogers had given Sam the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and the series tackled what it means to be Cap.
As you can see from the new artwork below, Mackie's costume is heavily inspired by the Marvel Comics from which the series heavily drew inspiration.
Not long after the series concluded it was revealed that Mackie would lead a new Captain America film, co-written by Marcus Spellman, the head writer and show creator of the Disney+ show.
Spellman is said to be co-writing the script with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam grappling with what it would mean to be a Black Captain America, before finally taking on the role in the final episode.
Ahead of the show's launch Mackie told Screen Rant: “The idea of having a Black Captain America, I feel like it’s more gas on that fire to burn down the systematic nonsense that we were brought up in and we lived in up until now.
"It’s a new day. It’s a new time. Homophobia, racism, sexism is a part of the past, and a part of that system that we can no longer allow to be recognised as our country or our understanding."
Captain America 4 has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel Studios or Disney.
