Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor hold up Harrods in pandemic-set 'Locked Down'

It's the Harrods-based lockdown heist movie that we didn't know we wanted.

Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor are fronting the comedy-drama-thriller Locked Down, which couldn't be more topical if it tried.

With Doug Liman at the helm, it finds Hathaway playing Linda, a high-up employee at Harrods who is not taking to lockdown with her husband Paxton (Ejiofor) particularly well.

So after having been forced to fire swathes of her staff, she snaps and decides that stealing from the storied department store's jewellery department could be just the very thing to pull her from her malaise, and possibly save her relationship.

There are visions of 2020 phenomena from Zoom calls and face-coverings to day-drinking and toilet roll hoarding, visions that may make us shudder in years to come.

Hathaway and Ejiofor are joined by a very sturdy cast (who presumably weren't up to much), including Mindy Kaling, Ben Stiller, Stephen Merchant, Dulé Hill, Mark Gatiss and Ben Kingsley, while Peaky Blinders and Eastern Promises writer Steven Knight has penned the script.

The project has come together with dizzying speed, having only been announced in September.

Speaking about the production, Hathaway told People: "The sheer act of making it, of doing something so collaborative and audacious made us all very focused and open — and strangely free.

"Like the odds were so against us anyway that it made me want to lean into the exhilaration and take risks with my performance.”

It's set for release in the US on 14 January via HBO Max, with UK release plans to follow.

Liman, meanwhile, is formulating his forthcoming project, a movie shot on board the International Space Station with Tom Cruise, the first movie project of its kind.
