Andrew Garfield has recalled the awkward moment he and Florence Pugh went "further" than they were meant to while filming a sex scene for their new movie We Live in Time.

The upcoming romantic comedy-drama stars the two actors as Tobias and Almut, whose lives are forever changed when a chance encounter brings them together.

During a new interview with Josh Horowitz (via Variety), Garfield revealed that the film features a sex scene so passionate that he and Pugh didn't hear the director call cut while they were filming it.

"We do the first take of this very intimate, passionate sex scene," he recalled.

"And it’s a closed set, which means it’s only me and Florence in a room together and the camera operator, who is our DP, a very lovely man called Stewart.

"The director’s in another room next door. And so the scene becomes passionate and we get into it, as it were, and we go a little bit further than we were meant to because we didn’t hear 'cut' and it’s feeling safe."

The Spider-Man actor continued: "And we’re just kind of like, 'OK, we’ll just go into the next thing, we’ll let this progress and we’ll just carry on'."

After a while, Garfield said he and Pugh were "telepathically saying to each other, 'This definitely feels like a longer take'."

He added, to laughter from the crowd: "I look up, and in the corner is Stewart and our boom operator. Stewart has the camera by his side and he’s turned into the wall."

We Live in Time is released in US cinemas on October 11 and in UK cinemas on January 1, 2025.
