The spooky season is upon us and October is the perfect time to dive into some terrifying films and TV shows to celebrate Halloween.

But why wait until 31 October to do so? Why not prepare yourselves by watching something scary every night of the month in a no-holds-barred frightfest of your own making.
In anticipation of the occasion, Yahoo has put together a list of every scary movie and TV show, new and old, that you can enjoy across the 31 days of October. Continue at your peril.
1 October — Saw X (in cinemas)
Saw X has just been released in cinemas, making it the perfect way to kickstart the month. The tenth film in the iconic horror franchise is also a prequel, set between the first and second Saw movies.
The horror flick follows villain John Kramer, aka Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), as he learns he has months to live and decides to travel to Mexico for treatment only to learn it's a scam targeting the most vulnerable.
2 October — The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Disney+)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an absolute classic and a fun way to celebrate Halloween this month, the film is part of Disney+'s back catalogue so can be enjoyed at any time of the month but we recommend watching it early because it's a good way to start.
Starring Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-n-Furter, the musical is iconic for a reason thanks to its humour, it's catchy tunes, and of course how incredibly quotable it is.
3 October —Children of the Corn (Arrow)
Arrow films will be hosting their own Shocktober event in October, and one of the movies that viewers can watch early is Children of the Corn.
Based on the writings of Stephen King, the film stars Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton as a young couple who become lost and discover a town run by bloodthirsty children looking for their next sacrifice.
4 October — Haunted Mansion (Disney+)
Disney's Haunted Mansion reboot arrives on the company's streaming platform on 4 October, bringing a family friendly horror film to the small screen.
Based on the theme park ride of the same name, the film follows a rag tag group of characters who begin investigating paranormal activity in the home of a mother and son.
5 October — Barbarian (Disney+)
Another great horror film in the Disney+ catalogue is Barbarian, the 2022 film follows a young woman who arrives at the rental home she's staying in only to discover a man is also there who is harbouring some dark secrets.
6 October — The Exorcist: Believer (In cinemas)
The Exorcist is one of the most iconic horror films ever made, and the film franchise is returning for a new film, which is set after the events of William Friedkin's genre-defining movie.
The Exorcist: Believer follows another young girl who becomes possessed by a demonic entity like Regan (Linda Blair) before her.
7 October — Pet Sematary Bloodlines (Paramount+)
Stephen King and horror go hand-in-hand, and a new film is coming to Paramount+ that adapts a never-before published prequel chapter to Pet Sematary.
Bloodlines follows Jud Crandall as he investigates the dark secrets of his hometown Ludlow.
8 October — Totally Killer (Prime Video)
In this horror comedy, a teen finds herself travelling back in time to the year her mother and friends were terrorised by a vicious killer.
Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) makes it her mission to stop the killer before its too late and unmask him before he can kill countless others.
9 October — The Mimic (Arrow)
Korean horror film The Mimic is available to watch on Arrow this month, the film is a frightening tale of a mother who begins to realise her young daughter has been possessed by a demonic entity.
10 October — Muppets Haunted Mansion (Disney+)
For a more family friendly film look no further than Muppets Haunted Mansion, which is also available on Disney+ right now.
The film follows Gonzo who is challenged to stay in the Haunted Mansion for one night and finds himself besieged by ghouls along the way.
11 October — The Boogeyman (Disney+)
2023 horror film The Boogeyman lands on Disney+ on 11 October, it follows a young woman and her sister as they are terrorised by a terrifying being in their home after their mother's death.
12 October — The Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix)
Mike Flanagan returns to Netflix with another terrifying story, this one titled The Fall of the House of Usher.
Based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe, the story follows billionaire Roderick Usher as he recounts the events that led to his six children's horrific and tragic demise, and the woman from his past who appears to be the culprit.
13 October — Friday the 13th (cinematic re-release)
The classic horror film Friday the 13th is coming back to cinemas for one night only, and there is no better time to enjoy it because this year 13 October is happening on a Friday.
Starring Kevin Bacon, the film follows a group of teens at a summer camp who have their fun trip become their worst nightmare when a vicious killer starts attacking them.
14 October — Monster High 2 (Paramount+)
Another family friendly film on offer is Monster High 2, which follows a group of teens entering their sophmore year where they have to face new challenges, new foes, and new powers.

15 October — Slotherhouse (Paramount+)
In this twisted yet amusing film in which teens start to be hunted down by a sloth that one of them took in as a pet but is revealed to have a sadistic streak.
16 October — Goosebumps (Disney+)
R. L. Stine's classic children's book series Goosebumps is getting the reboot treatment, and a new TV series is set to premiere on Disney+ in October.
The new take on the story sees a group of friends begin to unearth the dark secrets of their town, which also implicate their parents in a chilling conspiracy.
17 October — Death Screams (Arrow)
Child star David Nelson and Playboy Playmate Susan Kiger star in this classic slasher, which will be available to watch on Arrow during its Shocktober event.
18 October — Appendage (Disney+)
In this twisted horror film full of dark humour a fashion designer finds her life turning upside down when her inner thoughts manifest into gruesome parts that won't stop growing.
19 October — Bodies (Netflix)
Netflix delivers a genre-bending tale in Bodies, which follows four detectives in different timelines as they investigate the same murder.
The limited series is based on the beloved comic book of the same name, and stars some of the best British talent including Stephen Graham, Amaka Okafor and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd.
20 October — Werewolf By Night in Colour (Disney+)
Marvel's Halloween special Werewolf By Night is being rereleased in full colour, it stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell who attends a special monster hunting event only to have his dark powers revealed.
20 October - It Lives Inside (In cinemas)
Releasing in cinemas, It Lives Inside follows an Indian-American teen who unwittingly unleashes a demonic entity after falling out with her best friend, and the creature starts to feed off her loneliness and grow stronger.
21 October — Scream 6 (Paramount+)
The latest film in the Scream franchise is coming to Paramount+ this October and subscribers will have access to it just in time for Halloween, it follows several characters in New York City as they are must face off against Ghostface once again and take the villain down for good.
22 October — Christine (cinematic re-release)
Stephen King's Christine will be getting re-released this October, the 1983 film — directed by John Carpenter — follows Arnie Cunningham who buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine, except the car develops a mind of its own and starts going on a rampage against anyone that would hurt Arnie.
23 October — Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment DVD (Arrow)
The Hellraiser movies are coming to Arrow, all four films have been restored in 4K and will be available to binge watch from 23 October.
24 October — Killers of the Flower Moon (In cinemas)
Not a horror movie in the traditional sense but terrifying all the same, Martin Scorsese explores the killings of the Osage Nation in Killers of the Flower Moon.
The true crime drama stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, and it will be given an exclusive theatrical release ahead of its debut on Apple TV+.
25 October - What We Do in the Shadows season 5 (Disney+)
For those looking for a laugh rather than a scare, What We Do in the Shadows will return to UK screens on 25 October.
The mocumentary will continue to follow the vampire roommates of Staten Island as they face new challenges in their (undead) life, including familiar Guillermo demanding to be made into a vampire.
26 October — Five Nights at Freddy’s (In cinemas)
Another new horror film coming to cinemas is Five Nights at Freddy's, which is based on the popular video game of the same name.
Starring Josh Hutcherson, it follows a security guard as he takes a night job at a run down family restaurant where his child begins to be targeted by demonic automatons.
27 October - Doctor Jekyll (In cinemas)
Eddie Izzard stars as Doctor Jekyll in this modern reimagining of the classic novel, with the comedian portraying the famous character from Robert Louis Stevenson's story.
28 October —The Enfield Poltergeist (Apple TV+)
In this docuseries, Apple TV+ explores the real life case of the haunting in Enfield, where a family were tormented by ghosts in a news story that shocked the nation.
29 October — Beetlejuice (cinematic re-release)
Tim Burton's horror masterpiece Beetlejuice is being re-released this October, the movie stars Michael Keaton as the eponymous villain who is hired to mess with a family who move into the home of a deceased couple. Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin and Catherine O'Hara also star.
30 October — Peeping Tom (cinematic re-release)
This 1960 horror film is also being re-released in October, and the film follows a young man who kills women and films their dying moments on camera.
31 October — Ringu (Arrow)
Japanese horror film Ringu is arguably one of the scariest films around, so why not make it your movie of choice on Halloween itself?
The horror flick is being released on Arrow as part of its Shocktober season, and the film follows the terrors that unfold during an investigation into a cursed video tape which is said to kill people after seven days of watching it.
