Where’s Clemson in latest CFP rankings? Full bracket, playoff picture

CLEMSON — Clemson football rose from No. 23 to No. 20 in the second College Football Playoff poll, released on Tuesday night.

The Tigers (7-2, 6-1 ACC) have a slim path to the 12-team playoff despite beating Virginia Tech last week and Miami losing to Georgia Tech. All of their wins are against average or weaker teams, and they have suffered losses to Georgia and Louisville. According to ESPN's FPI, the Tigers have a 9.8% chance to win the conference and a 13.3% chance to make the playoffs.

Clemson has three games remaining in the regular season, including Saturday (noon ET, ESPN) against Pittsburgh (7-2, 3-2) at Acrisure Stadium. Then, the Tigers face The Citadel on Nov. 23 before facing in-state rival South Carolina at home on Nov. 30, which could improve their chance for a CFP at-large bid. To make the ACC championship game, they must beat Pitt and need Miami or SMU to slip up in the coming weeks.

The CFP selection committee rank the Top 25 teams for the new 12-team playoff format. The rankings will be updated each Tuesday for the next month, and the final CFP field will be announced on Dec. 8.

There are five guaranteed spots (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC champions, plus highest-ranked non Power 4 conference champion). And then seven teams get at-large bids, based on their ranking in the CFP poll.

Clemson is ranked No. 16 the US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the AP Top 25 after a 24-14 win vs. Virginia Tech in Week 11.
