West Michigan NASCAR broadcaster hangs up the headset

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The curtain call has come for both the 2024 NASCAR season and the career of one of its broadcasters.

West Michigan resident and NASCAR broadcaster Jeff Striegle is hanging up the headset after calling NASCAR races for the Motor Racing Network for decades.

It has been a big year for Striegle. In addition to his retirement from broadcasting, he also celebrated an induction into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame.

“Just an incredible honor,” he said. “One I never would have dreamed possible.”

Speaking to News 8 Thursday, Striegle recalled a few moments that stick out in his tenured career, including being a part of the broadcasting crew for the 2003 Daytona 500, his first of what would be many Daytona race calls. He also recounted the championship weekends he has taken part in, including years in which drivers like Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. claimed the title.

As he moves into retirement, Striegle continues to be involved in Berlin Raceway management and looks forward to spending more time with family and friends.
