After 27 years, Jeff Striegle to call his last NASCAR race

WRIGHT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Motor Racing Network radio play-by-play man Jeff Striegle is hanging up his microphone.

He started his career calling races at Berlin Raceway near Marne. A few years later, he got the opportunity to jump to the big leagues.

“By chance, it was almost a dare to send an audition tape into the Motor Racing Network and see if they would call back. We did that, they called back,” he said.

For 27 years, he has scored NASCAR’s best moments.

But earlier this year, he decided it was time to focus more on his life in Michigan and announced he was retiring from MRN.

“I’ve truly enjoyed every broadcast, and every broadcast has been unique,” he said. “That will be the hard part, is actually not doing something that I’ve truly enjoyed year after year after year. This season has been great.”

His last race call will be Nov. 10. He will also be inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 3.

He will continue his work as general manager of Berlin Raceway next season.
