Watch: Memphis football scores touchdown against Troy — and Tigers celebrate with Ja Morant

Ja Morant picked a good day to come watch Memphis football.

The Tigers earned a blowout win over Troy on Saturday at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, and they did so with the star Grizzlies guard in attendance. Morant stood behind an end zone for most of the game next to his father, Tee Morant.

And the Tigers' players noticed. After Mario Anderson scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, steps away from Morant, Memphis offensive linemen Jonah Gambill and Trent Holler made sure to celebrate with Morant before heading back to the bench.

Morant also spent time in the first half chatting with Memphis athletic director Ed Scott, and they got a nice ovation from the crowd when they were shown on the big screen during the game.

Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield said postgame that he was excited to see Morant in attendance.

"My poor parents are in their mid-70s. They probably didn't know who Ja Morant was up there with them today. It was cool," Silverfield said. "Ja could be doing anything else, and he wants to come support the local football team. That's huge for our university."

He's not the first Grizzlies' player to come support the football team. Last year, Desmond Bane performed the coin toss before the Tigers' win over Navy.

The Grizzlies open the 2024-25 season on Oct. 23 against the Jazz.
