Washington safety Montae Nicholson done for season, after video of fight surfaces
The news that Washington Redskins safety Montae Nicholson was arrested after a fight with another man early Tuesday morning was troubling. The video will make it worse for him and the team.
TMZ got the video of what it says is the incident with Nicholson and published it Wednesday. It shows a fight and a brutal knockout punch by a man TMZ identified as Nicholson.
While details of what exactly prompted the fight are thin, it’s not a good look to have an NFL player being arrested for assaulting another man at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday. Nicholson was charged with assault and battery, and with public drunkenness. He was released on $2,500 bail.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Nicholson won’t play this week and the team will determine if he’ll be suspended the rest of the season, according to Les Carpenter of the Washington Post. Then on Wednesday evening, the Redskins put Nicholson on the reserve/non-football injury list, ending his season according to Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post.
The NFI designation seems to indicate Nicholson might have hurt himself in the fight on Tuesday morning.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (via the Loudoun Times-Mirror), a man and a woman in the fight said Nicholson and a woman named Sydney Maggiore drove up next to them and started honking. A verbal altercation turned into a physical one. Police found Nicholson assaulted the man, and Maggiore assaulted the man and woman.
Maggiore was charged with malicious wounding, and assault and battery. As of Tuesday she was still being held without bail. According to the police report she may have used a bottle as a weapon.
Washington was already criticized heavily for claiming linebacker Reuben Foster after he was cut by the 49ers following his arrest on a domestic violence accusation. Then they had another off-field incident to deal with.
Nicholson was a fourth-round pick in 2017 and has appeared in all 14 games this season, but he was benched after seven starts.
