It is time to vote for the boy and girl athlete of the week from the Tuscaloosa area for the week of April 15-19.
North River Christian Academy's Emma Champion won the girls poll last week with 65% of votes, while Northridge's William Numnum won the boys poll with 50% of votes. Nominees for athlete of the week come from the top performers from the week before. Voting will remain open until noon Thursday.
Tuscaloosa area boys athlete of the week nominations
Griffin Armstrong, Hillcrest tennis, won line one singles (6-7 (3), 6-4, 12-10) and doubles (6-2, 6-3) in the Class 6A, Section 4 Tournament.
Matthew Cash, Bibb County baseball, went 4-for-7 from the plate with a triple and two RBIs in the Choctaws opening round playoff series sweep over T.R. Miller (9-1, 3-1).
Spencer Davis, Hillcrest baseball, pitched 6⅔ innings giving up two runs on one hit with 13 strikeouts and two walks in game two of the first round playoff series sweep over Faith Academy (12-5, 5-2).
Jonni Kneer, Tuscaloosa Academy tennis, won the Class 1A-3A Section 2 line one singles (6-0, 6-2) and doubles (5-7, 7-5, 10-2) tournament.
Shawn Stephenson, Northridge track and field, ran a new PR of 4:19 in the 1,600 at the Mountain Brook Invitational for a new Northridge school record.
Tuscaloosa area girls athlete of the week nominations
Kameryn Browne, Hillcrest tennis, won line one singles (6-3- 2-6, 10-2) in the Class 6A, Section 4 Tournament.
Ella Crissey, Northridge track and field, took home first place in javelin at the Mountain Brook Invitational throwing 128-0.
Caroline Jones, Northside softball, finished the week hitting .562 with five doubles, one home run and 13 RBIs.
Kenley Myers, Northridge soccer, scored four goals and had an assist in a 10-0 win over Hillcrest to close out area play undefeated.
Mary Morgan Odum, Tuscaloosa County softball, allowed three hits and zero runs and struck out three over six innings pitched in a 1-0 win over Demopolis. From the plate, she went 1-for-3.
