(This story was updated to add new information.)
The St. Thomas More High School community came together this week to vote for swimmer Brooks Resweber as the Daily Advertiser Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-14. In an online poll that closed on Friday, Resweber received a little more than 67% of votes cast for a total of 11,201 votes.
The freshman swimmer earned this recognition after swimming for gold in the Cougars' first meet of the season at the Earl J. Chris pool at the Robicheaux Center. Resweber swam in multiple events for his team helping the boys' squad come out on top finishing in first place overall.
He competed in the boys' 200-yard individual medley, 100-yard backstroke, and 400-yard freestyle relay as the first leg and came away with gold in each event. He swam the 200-yard individual medley in two minutes and 13.64 seconds beating out all other swimmers with over a second difference. In the 100-yard backstroke, Resweber finished with a time of one minute and 0.19 seconds for the gold. In the relay, he helped the boys' team finish in three minutes and 40.29 seconds.
The freshman will look to continue to play a big role in St. Thomas More's swim program for the rest of the season.
