Updating Texas rankings in college football polls after Longhorns beat Mississippi State
Texas football ascended to No. 1 in the updated US LBM Coaches Poll released on Sunday following the Longhorns' 35-13 victory over Mississippi State at Royal-Memorial Stadium.
Texas (5-0, 1-0 SEC) struggled with the lowly Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2) early, carrying a 14-6 lead into halftime before coach Steve Sarkisian's team asserted itself in the second half.

The Longhorns moved up anyway after top-ranked Georgia lost at Alabama, which came in narrowly behind Texas at No. 2.
But the AP voters were not as kind to Texas. The updated AP Poll moved the Longhorns down from No. 1 to No. 2, with the Crimson Tide taking over the top spot.
The Longhorns now enter their first of two open weeks, with a rivalry game against Oklahoma looming on Oct. 12 in Dallas.
