Updating LSU rankings in college football polls after South Alabama win in Week 5
BATON ROUGE – LSU football closed the nonconference part of its 2024 schedule with its most complete performance as a team, dominating South Alabama, 42-10, Saturday night inside Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers scored touchdowns on their first four possessions. Freshman running back Caden Durham took the first play of the game, a screen pass from Garrett Nussmeier, 71 yards to pay dirt and LSU was off to the races.
Durham finished with 217 total yards of offense and scored twice.
Nussmeier had a career night, throwing for 409 yards against the Jaguars, but he did throw two interceptions, the first time he's done that since a 2022 game against Southern.

LSU rankings update
After the convincing win over the Jags, LSU bumped up one spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll to No. 12 for Week 6. This is the highest Kelly and the Tigers have been in the coaches poll this season as they opened at No. 13 before dropping the season opener in Las Vegas to USC, which relegated them down a few spots. LSU had been the highest-ranked one loss but is now the fourth-best one-loss team behind No. 5 Georgia (3-1), who lost to No. 2 Alabama Saturday night, No. 10 Michigan (4-1), who has beaten USC, and No. 11 Ole Miss (4-1).
