Defense: A-

Many experts believed South Alabama was going to come into Baton Rouge and move the ball at will. LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker and his guys had different ideas. LSU bottled up the Jags' dynamic duo of Gio Lopez and Fluff Bothwell.

Special teams: B+

Zavion Thomas was one step away from breaking a punt return for a touchdown. Punter Blake Ochsendorf had a punt downed inside the 5-yard line.

Coaching: B+

Considering what Baker and the defensive staff dealt with this week with not having Harold Perkins, the coaching staff did a whale of a job with adjustments.

Overall: B+

LSU played one of its more complete games of the season to this point but it outclassed its opponent at every position on the field. The Tigers took care of business.
