Updating Clemson rankings in college football polls after loss to Georgia in Week 1

CLEMSON — Clemson football dropped from No. 14 to No. 22 in the Week 2 US LBM Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

The Tigers (0-1) received 223 points and no first-place votes. They were the No. 2-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Miami, which placed at No. 15 with 650 points.

Clemson fell after losing 34-3 to No. 1 Georgia on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Despite not being the favorite in the matchup, the Tigers' blowout loss pushed voters to drop them eight spots.

One other ACC school made the Top 25: NC State (154) at No. 23.

ACC teams that did not make the Top 25 but received votes were Georgia Tech (86 points, 26th on poll), SMU (19, 31st), Boston College (7, 40th), North Carolina (3, 45th) and Syracuse (1, 48th).

Georgia remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,371 points and 51 first-place votes. Ohio State was No. 2 with 1,316 points and three first-place votes, while No. 3 Texas earned one first-place vote.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.
