Updating Clemson ranking in college football polls after Week 9 open date

CLEMSON — Clemson football rose from No. 9 to No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.
The Tigers (6-1, 5-0 ACC) received 942 points and did not receive any first-place votes. They are the second-ranked ACC team, finishing behind Miami, which is No. 5 with 1,136 points.
Clemson entered its final regular season open date this past week after winning six straight games. It will return to action against Louisville (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Memorial Stadium.
Two other ACC schools made the top 25: Pittsburgh (495 points) at No. 17 and SMU (346) at No. 20.
ACC teams that did not make the coaches top 25 poll, but received votes were Virginia Tech (3 points), Duke (3) and Louisville (2).
Oregon remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,349 points and 53 first-place votes. Georgia stayed at No. 2 too with 1,270 points and one first-place vote.
The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson rankings update
In the AP poll, Clemson dropped from No. 9 to No. 11, receiving 968 points. It sits behind Miami (No. 5, 1,283 points) in the conference and is ahead of Pittsburgh (No. 18, 570) and SMU (No. 20, 400).
ACC teams that did not make the AP Top 25 but received votes were Louisville (5 points).
Oregon remained at No. 1 in the AP poll, earning 1,549 points and 61 first-place votes. Georgia stayed at No. 2 with one first-place vote.
