Tua Tagovailoa contract details: Miami Dolphins give former Alabama QB massive extension

Tua Tagovailoa isn’t going anywhere.

The former Alabama quarterback agreed to a new four-year contract extension with the Miami Dolphins on Friday, according to NFL Network, after months of negotiations and rumors that he and the franchise were at odds.

The deal makes Tagovailoa one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL moving forward and keeps him entrenched as the Dolphins' starter. Without a new contract, the 26-year-old was eligible to become a free agent after the 2024 season. He had been a limited participant during the start of Dolphins training camp to this point.

Tagovailoa is coming off his most productive campaign in Miami, leading the Dolphins to the playoffs and becoming the first Miami quarterback since Dan Marino to lead the NFL in passing. Perhaps more importantly, he appeared in a career-high 17 games.

Durability had long been an issue for Tagovailoa, even dating back to his time with the Crimson Tide. But the Dolphins, who selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, were finally convinced enough to invest more in their franchise signal caller.
