Tony Allen excited for jersey retirement set for March
MEMPHIS – On the same night that Core Four legend Zach Randolph became the first Grizzlies player to earn his place in the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame, Tony Allen talked about his night.
A night that is set for mid March.
In just a matter of months, Allen will see his number 9 join Randolph’s number 50 and Marc Gasol’s 33 in the rafters of FedExForum.
An honor that’s still hard to comprehend for one of the NBA’s all-time best defenders.
“Oh, man. I ain’t gonna lie. It’s getting overwhelming. Every time somebody brings it up to me, my palms get sweaty. But like I say, it’s a dream come true. It’s definitely an honor and a big shout out to the Memphis Grizzlies organization for honoring me in that light,” Allen said. “Having your number in the rafters is every kid’s dream.”
And just like Allen was there to support Randolph, ZBo can’t wait to see Allen have his night in the spotlight on March 15th.
“When Tony Allen’s jersey goes up there, that’s going to be a great feeling,” Randolph said. “Like I told him, I shed a tear. Just seeing that, all the hard work he put in, he deserves that. I can’t wait till it happens”.
