Tom Brady had a long retirement announcement and he didn't mention the Patriots

Tom Brady wrote a lot of words in the Instagram post announcing his retirement Tuesday. Over the eight pages, he thanked several people. There were several mentions of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his two seasons there.

It was glaring that Brady didn't include anything about the team with which he spent his first 20 seasons.

It didn't take long for people to notice that Brady's retirement announcement didn't mention a word about New England, Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft or any of his Patriots teammates. That was curious.

While his relationship with Belichick has been dissected from every angle, and plenty was said about how the two were a bit cool toward each other by the end, Brady has not had anything that resembles a public war with the Pats or his former coach. Belichick hasn't had anything bad to say about Brady either.

UPDATE: Brady acknowledged the Patriots a few hours after his own announcement, quote tweeting Robert Kraft's congratulatory message.

It's not like Brady has ignored his Patriots past. His production company just made a 10-part documentary series for ESPN on each of his Super Bowl seasons called "Man in the Arena," and the first nine parts are from his time with the Patriots. In those episodes, he never uttered an ill word about the Patriots or anyone associated with them.

Brady's omission from his original statement likely doesn't mean anything. He hasn't chosen to ignore those two decades of greatness before his retirement announcement, but the lack of mentions in his initial retirement announcement for anyone in the Patriots organization was odd.

Brady thanked Bucs personnel like general manager Jason Licht, head coach Bruce Arians and the team's assistant coaches. He thanked his Bucs teammates, the Glazer family that owns the team, the city of Tampa and the "entire Tampa-St. Petersburg region."

Just no mention of the Patriots, at least not right away.
