Time is running out for the Steelers to sign these 6 2025 free agents
In just one week the Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons and their self-imposed deadline on signing future free agents to contract extensions will take effect. Pittsburgh currently has a long list of guys who are set to hit free agency and the Steelers front office seems to feel no sense of urgency to be proactive with several starters.
Time is running out for the Steelers to lock up these six key Steelers for the long term.
DT Cam Heyward
Cam Heyward is currently patiently waiting for a new contract and there's no excuse for the Steelers not to get a deal done for the current Walter Payton Man of the Year.
QB Justin Fields
If the Steelers wait until the offseason to work a deal with Justin Fields, the competition could drive up his asking price. If the Steelers were confident enough to trade for him, they should be confident enough to sign him.
TE Pat Freiermuth
Freiermuth is too talented to just let him walk in free agency. With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in the fold, we expect a huge year from him so it would be better to get an extension now.
QB Russell Wilson
If the Steelers choose not to extend Fields this offseason, they must extend Wilson so the team doesn't go into the 2025 offseason with no quarterbacks under contract.
OT Dan Moore Jr.
Call us nostalgic but we think Dan Moore Jr., even if he isn't the starter, is a really good backup at both offensive tackle spots and his experience alone makes him worth keeping beyond this season.
RB Najee Harris
We put Harris last here because as much as we want him back, the idea of re-signing him with Jaylen Warren on the team is a longshot at this point.
