Three Minnesota Frost Camp Invites To Watch

The 2024-25 PWHL season is right around the corner. Right as the NHL season kicked off its new season, all six PWHL teams released their 2024-25 training camp rosters.

Old and new faces littered the list. For the Minnesota Frost, 18 of the 28 names are returning from their 2024 roster, meaning their championship cast will have an opportunity to repeat as Champions. Minnesota labelled some returning players as camp invites, such as Brooke Bryant and Claire Butorac, as they're unsigned. The Frost only has 16 players signed for the upcoming season thus far.

Along with the returnees is their 2024 draft class and, notably, three 23-year-old undrafted players designated as camp invites. Let's look at the three players some Frost fans might be unfamiliar with.

Kaitlyn O'Donohoe

Forward Kaitlyn O'Donohoe is the first of three undrafted signees fresh out of college. Unlike the other two camp invites, O'Donohoe already has some professional games under her belt during the 2024-25 hockey season.

After finishing her five-year collegiate career at Colgate University, O'Donohoe went overseas to play in the Swedish Women's Hockey League. The Atlanta, Ga., native has two goals and three assists through her first ten contests in Sweden, and will look to make a name for herself at Frost training camp in November.

Charlotte Akervik

Charlotte Akervik is not unfamiliar with the state of Minnesota. The defender spent her five-year NCAA career all with the Minnesota State University Mavericks, including serving her final season playing collegiate hockey as Mavericks captain.

The 23-year-old's best statistical season came during her 2021-22 campaign, where she scored eight goals and 17 assists through 32 matches. So, while Akervik never lit up the NCAA, she brings a solid two-way presence with a splash of offense. With only eight defenders invited to Frost training camp, there is a strong possibility Akervik will receive a contract.

Lucy Morgan

Like Akervik, goaltender Lucy Morgan is familiar with the Minnesota hockey scene. Morgan played her final year of college eligibility at the University of Minnesota following four seasons at St. Lawrence University.

The 23-year-old posted a 1.65 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage through 20 games last season while sporting a 15-3-0 record. While Morgan is a longshot to play in the PWHL this season due to Minnesota’s standout goaltending duo of Nicole Hensley and Maddie Rooney, it will be interesting to see if she earns a reserve contract.

The Frost's training camp will kick off on November 12 at Tria Rink in Saint Paul, Minn. The organization must widdle down their roster to 23 active players and three additional reserve players by November 27.
