Three KU basketball players, including McCullar, Dickinson, to cooperate in Shannon case
LAWRENCE — A KU Athletics spokesperson said Saturday that three Kansas basketball players have been asked to cooperate in a local court case, and that they will.
Hunter Dickinson, Elmarko Jackson and Kevin McCullar Jr. are not implicated in the case. They were not listed as witnesses in the initial charging document from December 2023, which alleged University of Illinois basketball player Terrence Shannon Jr. committed one count of rape or, in an alternative one count of sexual battery, in September 2023. But a defense attorney has subpoenaed the three KU athletes to appear on behalf of Shannon.
The alleged incident occurred during the weekend of the Illinois-Kansas football game in Lawrence, where Shannon is accused of groping and raping an individual at the Jayhawk Cafe.
The count of rape is a severity level 1 person felony and, according to the charging document, carries a penalty range ranging from 147-653 months (more than 12 to less than 55 years) in prison and/or a fine of up to $300,000 and 36 months of post-release supervision.”
The count of sexual battery is a class A person misdemeanor and carries a penalty range from up to one year in the county jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.
