Texas' T'Vondre Sweat, Byron Murphy's 40-yard dashes impress at NFL Scouting Combine

The Texas defensive line duo that terrorized college football in 2023 participated in the 2024 NFL Combine on Thursday, raising eyebrows with their performances during workouts.

After measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 366 pounds, T'Vondre Sweat stepped onto the line and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.26 seconds. Slower than your average sized football player but of course, he's far from average. Still faster than the likes of Tom Brady though.

His 10-yard split came in at 1.8 while he jumped 26 inches on his vertical and leapt 8 feet, 2 inches on the broad jump. However, it could be argued that his ex-teammate Byron Murphy II had an even better day.

At 6-foot-half and 297 pounds, Murphy was already projected as a first round pick before the combine. After his workout that included a 1.69 10-yard split and a 4.88 40-yard dash, he had social media wondering just how high he could go.

He wasn't as fast as Buccaneer's current DT Calijah Kancey, who ran the fastest time for an interior DT ever. However, Kancey weighed 10 less pounds than Murphy at the 2023 combine.

In most mock drafts, Murphy lands somewhere between 15-20. Sweat on the other hand, projects as a late first round pick or an early second. Texas' other former players will be working out as the week continues, with Jaylan Ford being the only other Longhorns appearing Thursday.
