Texas Tech football vs Arizona State score today: Red Raiders take down Sun Devils 30-22

The Texas Tech football team began Big 12 Conference play on a positive note, holding Arizona State and touted running back Cam Skattebo in check to emerge with a 30-22 victory on Saturday in Jones AT&T Stadium.

The Red Raiders improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in Big 12 play while the Sun Devils (3-1, 0-1) suffered their first loss of the year and first setback as a Big 12 team.

Tahj Brooks finished with 117 yards on 27 carries, his third time over the century mark in as many games played this season. Behren Morton had a pair of touchdown passes in the first half and the Texas Tech defense came up with three turnovers on downs, two coming in 4th-and-short situations.

6:05 p.m.: Red Raiders recover the onside kick.

6:01 p.m.: Cam Skattebo finds pay dirt with 1:39 left. Sun Devils go for 2 and Chapman Lewis bats the ball away. Red Raiders lead 30-22. Onside kick coming.

5:55 p.m.: Two-minute timeout. Arizona State has a 3rd-and-1 at the Tech 6, Red Raiders up 30-16.

5:50 p.m.: Texas Tech forced to punt after three plays. ASU ball w/ 3:52 left, Red Raiders leading 30-16.

5:43 P.M.: Arizona State turns it over on downs after a 4th-and-9 pass at the Tech 32 falls incomplete. Tech can close this out, up 30-16 with 4:18 left.

5:36 p.m.: Gino Garcia connects on a 39-yard field goal attempt, pushing Texas Tech's lead to 30-16 with 6:54 remaining.

5:20 p.m.: Reese Burkhardt connects on a 40-yard field goal to extend Tech's lead to 27-16 with 13:38 remaining.

5:16 p.m.: End of 3rd: Texas Tech 24, Arizona State 16. Red Raiders have a 1st-and-10 at the ASU 22.

5:07 p.m.: Cam Skattebo breaks loose on a dump-off pass and finishes the drive with 3-yard TD run. E'Maurion Banks comes up with the block on the PAT, keeping Texas Tech up 24-16, 3:39 left in third.

5:03 p.m.: Officials confer and rule the punt a touchback. ASU ball at the 20.

5:02 p.m.: Texas Tech can't do anything with the opportunity and punts it away after three plays. ASU ball at the 1 after another great punt coverage play, 4:48 left in third.

4:55 p.m.: Arizona State goes for it again on 4th-and-short. Texas Tech again gets the stop, turning the ball over on downs at the 48, 5:44 left in third.

4:48 p.m.: Jalin Conyers finishes the long drive with a 3-yard TD run, taking the snap out of the wildcat set and finding the hole to the end zone. 4:40 p.m.: Arizona State goes 3-and-out after a pair of failed long passes. Tech begins drive at its own 32.

4:36 p.m.: The second half has begun. Arizona State begins the drive at the 25.

4:15 p.m.: Halftime: Texas Tech leads Arizona State 17-10. Sun Devils will receive the kick to begin the second half.

4:12 p.m.: Gino Garcia connects on a 30-yard field goal to put Texas Tech up 17-10 w/ 8 seconds left in the first half.

4:00 p.m.: Sam Leavitt sneaks it in from a yard out to give the Sun Devils their first TD of the game. Texas Tech leads 14-10, 1:33 left in first half.

3:56 p.m.: Two-minute timeout has come. Arizona State has found the holes in the Tech secondary and has a 1st-and-10 at the Tech 15.

3:52 p.m.: Sun Devils have dialed up the pressure on defense and Behren Morton's been out of sorts the last few drives. ASU ball at its own 21, 5:34 left in second.

3:46 p.m.: Illegal touching penalty takes away a first down for the Sun Devils. Tech to start the drive at their own 42, 6:35 left in second.

3:40 p.m.: Josh Kelly was left all alone for a big gain but started falling down before Morton's pass could get to him. Tech put coverage team downs the ball at the 2. 8:54 left in second.

3:35 p.m.: Arizona State gets a big sack on 3rd down but is called for unsportsmanlike conduct. Red Raiders will keep driving, starting at their own 38.

3:28 p.m.: Despite another personal foul penalty, the Tech defense holds again, this time making Arizona State settle for a 34-yard field goal by Ian Hershey. Red Raiders lead 14-3, 13:12 left in second.

3:20 p.m.: End of 1st quarter: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 0. Sun Devils have 1st-and-10 at the Tech 36 out of the break.

3:19 p.m.: Red Raiders go 3-and-out but not before upping its penalty yardage to 59 yards for the first quarter.

3:12 p.m. Sun Devils go for it on 4th-and-short again but the Red Raiders stop Cam Skattebo short of the marker. Tech takes over at its own 13, 2:48 left in first.

3:08 p.m.: Arizona State is down to the Tech 15-yard line thanks to three penalties in the secondary for a total of 35 yards. Sun Devils have 34 yards of total offense on its own so far. 4:08 left in first.

3:04 p.m.: Macho Stevenson, in for the injured Bralyn Lux, gets called for pass interference on Arizona State's 4th-and-1 play from its own 26.

2:57 p.m.: Josh Kelly motions into a tunnel screen on 3rd-and-3 and takes it 20 yards for the touchdown. Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 0, 7:42 left in first.

2:50 p.m.: Red Raiders bring pressure on ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt and it leads to an interception for C.J. Baskerville. Red Raider ball at the ASU 38, 9:53 left in first.

2:44 p.m.: Picture perfect opening drive for Texas Tech. Rather than force runs against the Sun Devils, Behren Morton flung it around for 52 yards on the drive, connecting with Johncarlos Miller II on a 2-yard TD. Red Raiders up 7-0, 11:18 left in first.

2:35 p.m.: Arizona State squibs the kick out of bounds to avoid kicking to Drae McCray. Red Raider ball at the 35.

2:33 p.m.: Texas Tech has won the coin toss and will receive the ball first.

Starting cornerback Bralyn Lux (thigh) will miss his second game of the season. Lux had a pick-6 in last week's win over North Texas. He previously missed the season opener against Abilene Christian.
