Texas Tech football vs Abilene Christian score today: Red Raiders hold on for the 52-51 OT win

The Texas Tech football team found a way to hold for a 52-51 win over Abilene Christian on Saturday night in Jones AT&T Stadium.

The Red Raider defense was gashed throughout the game, allowing the Wildcats to stay in the action, forcing overtime and coming one play away from coming away with a shocking upset win. Instead, the defense came through in the biggest moment and came up with the stop.

10:13 p.m.: Isaiah Johnson plunges in from one-yard out for get ACU into the end zone. The Wildcats went for the two-point conversion. McIvor is sacked and the Red Raiders hang on for the win.

10:05 p.m.: Behren Morton avoids the sack and finds Caleb Douglas for the 15-yard TD to put Tech up 52-45. ACU has a chance to respond.

10:02 p.m.: Texas Tech will have possession first in overtime.

9:58 p.m.: We are headed to overtime tied 45-45.

9:56 p.m.: A 21-yard field goal from Ritse Vaes ties the game 45-45 with five seconds left in regulation.

9:53 p.m.: ACU has 2nd and short from the Texas Tech 4 with 15 seconds left. Wildcats have no timeouts left.

9:48 p.m.: ACU calls a timeout facing a 4th-and-4 at the Tech 42 with 39 seconds left.

9:43 p.m.: ACU converts on 3rd-and-long and has a first down at the Tech 48 at the two-minute warning.

9:40 p.m.: Another long Texas Tech drive stalls out deep in ACU territory. A false start on 3rd-and-inches and an incomplete pass force Tech to settle for a 31-yard field goal from Gino Garcia. Tech leads 45-42, 2:39 left.

9:30 p.m.: Isaiah Johnson caps off another long ACU drive and finds the end zone to tie things up 42-42 with 4:55 left in regulation.

9:21 p.m.: Reese Burkhardt gets the field goal duties this time and hits a 41-yarder to put Tech up 42-35 with 8:32 left. The drive stalled out deep in ACU territory, plagued by a holding penalty and Behren Morton not seeing a wide open Jalin Conyers on the left side of the field.

9:12 p.m.: Another long touchdown by Abilene Christian, this one a 30-yard toss from Maverick McIvor to Nehemiah Martinez cuts the Texas Tech lead to 39-35 with 11:45 left.

9:08 p.m.: Tech goes for it on 4th-and-2 from the ACU 38. Behren Morton's pass is tipped at the line for a turnover on downs.

9:06 p.m.: We're into the 4th quarter, Tech leading 39-28.

9:01 p.m.: ACU went for it 4th-and-inches at the Texas Tech 40. Jayden Cofield broke through the line to stuff the run for a loss of yardage. Red Raiders take over at their own 42, 11 seconds left in the third.

8:53 p.m.: After Drae McCray busted out a 65-yard kickoff return, Tech perfectly executed a flea flicker with Behren Morton finding Josh Kelly for a 35-yard touchdown. Red Raiders up 39-28, 4:50 left in the third.

8:47 p.m.: Rovaughn Banks Jr. runs in for a 1-yard touchdown to make 32-28 Texas Tech with 5:10 left in the third.

8:40 p.m.: ACU is down to the Texas Tech 34 yard line facing a 2-and-7 with 8:18 left in the third quarter

8:33 p.m.: Texas Tech takes more than five minutes off the clock before facing a 4th-and-goal from the ACU 1. Another play to Tahj Brooks is stuffed, forcing a turnover on downs at the ACU 4. 9:37 left in the third.

8:26 p.m.: Drae McCray returns the kickoff to the 29 yard line to open the second half.

8:04 p.m.: Wildcats run out the rest of the clock to take us to halftime. Texas Tech leads 32-21 and will receive the ball to start the second half.

8:03 p.m.: Penalties kill a potential end-of-half drive for the Red Raiders, who are forced to punt. ACU with the ball at their own 17, 32 seconds left in the half.

7:56 p.m.: On 3rd-and-6 from the ACU 32, Maverick McIvor hits Blayne Taylor for a 71-yard touchdown. Taylor sprinted by the Tech defense and C.J. Baskerville couldn't catch up. Tech leads 32-21, 1:50 until halftime.

7:47 p.m.: Texas Tech goes for it on on 4th-and-13 from the ACU 36. Morton lofts the pass to the right corner of the end zone and it's ruled a touchdown for now. The play stands after review. Tech leads 32-14, 2:55 left in the half.

7:36 p.m.: Abilene Christian is forced to punt. Texas Tech will get the ball at their own 30 with 6:46 left in the half, leading 25-14.

7:28 p.m.: Gino Garcia gets the first crack and field-goal kicking duties for Texas Tech, connecting on a 39-yard field goal to extend the lead to 25-14, 9:58 left in the half.

7:25 p.m.: Drae McCray with a massive kickoff return all the way to the ACU 26. McCray took it 54 yards to set up the Texas Tech drive.

7:21 p.m.: Isaiah Johnson, a Lubbock-Cooper product, takes in a 2-yard run for the touchdown. Wildcats cut the Texas Tech lead to 22-14, 11:52 left in half.

7:13 p.m.: The first quarter has concluded. Texas Tech leads Abilene Christian 22-7.

7:08 p.m.: ACU bites hard on the RPO leaving Coy Eakin wide open for a 35-yard catch-and-run TD, putting Texas Tech up 22-7 with 1:34 left in the first.

7:01 p.m.: ACU is on the board was a pair of former Red Raiders connect on a deep ball. Maverick McIvor absorbed a big hit to find Jed Castles for a 31-yard TD. Tech leads 15-7, 3:42 left in first.

6:51 p.m.: Texas Tech needs just two plays to find the end zone as Behren Morton and Coy Eakin connected twice, the final coming on a 4-yard fade route for the touchdown. Tech runs a fake on the PAT attempt and Jalin Conyers runs it in for the 2-point conversion. 15-0 Tech, 8:18 left in first.

6:49 p.m.: A draw play gets blown up by the Red Raider defense and De'Braylon Carroll recovers a fumble at the ACU 17 yard line.

6:48 p.m.: ACU gets its first first down of the game courtesy a short catch and run from former Red Raider Nehemiah Martinez.

6:42 p.m.: Tahj Brooks takes the handoff 18 yards for a touchdown.

Texas Tech was facing 3rd-and-13 after a false start before Brooks hit the outside and eased in to the end zone for his first touchdown of the season. Texas Tech leads 7-0, 10:38 left in the first.

6:36 p.m.: Tahj Brooks gets his first carry of the season, a six-yard gain.

Three straight runs from Brooks gets Tech to the 44.

Red Raider using speed on this drive. Behren Morton finds Josh Kelly for a pair of chunk plays to get Tech to the Wildcat 30.

Sterling Porcher whistled for a false start making it 3rd and 13 from the 18

6:30 p.m.: Texas Tech wins the coin toss and defers. The defense will take the field first.

Wildcats go three-and-out on two failed passes and a run of maybe half a yard. Texas Tech takes over at their own 29.
