Texas Tech basketball NCAA Tournament projections: 6 is the magic number

After a split week against a pair of Top 10 teams, it's time to take another look at the Texas Tech basketball team's latest NCAA Tournament projections from the top bracketologists.

The Red Raiders are 18-7 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play heading into Tuesday's home game against the TCU. The Horned Frogs and Red Raiders have similar profiles for March Madness as they are tied in the conference standings entering the week.

Texas Tech picked up a 29-point win at home against No. 6 Kansas last Monday and suffered an eight-point loss to No. 10 Iowa State on Saturday.

Last week's projections saw the Red Raiders drop significantly, so here's how things stand now.

ESPN: 6-seed (South Region)

The split week saw ESPN's Joe Lunardi move the Red Raiders up a bit, up to a 6-seed in the South Region. Lunardi's projection would see Texas Tech heading to Memphis to take on the winner of the Butler/Gonzaga 11-seed First Four game. Lunardi has Alabama as the 3-seed opposite of Tech in this grouping. This is an increase of one seed line after Lunardi had the Red Raiders as a 7-seed last week.

CBS Sports: 6-seed (South Region)

Jerry Palm's latest CBS Sports projection bumped the Red Raiders up to the 6-seed line in the South Region. There, he has Texas Tech playing the winner of the 11-seed First Four game between Texas A&M and Colorado. In this projection, Tech would be in Charlotte, North Carolina, and could play either 3-seed Alabama or 14-seed Louisiana Tech in the second round. Palm had the Red Raiders all the way down to a 9-seed in last week's projections.

Fox Sports: 6-seed (South Region)

Mike DeCoursey's latest projection was released on Friday prior to the Iowa State game (though each of the other bracketologists here didn't ding the Red Raiders for the loss in Ames). That said, DeCoursey had Texas Tech as a 6-seed, also in the South Region, and taking on 11-seed Texas A&M in the first round. Tech was a 9-seed in DeCoursey's projections last week.

Field of 68: 6-seed (South Region)

Another projection, another 6-seed and once again in the South Region for the Red Raiders. The Field of 68's Monday projections have Texas Tech taking on the winner of the First Four game between 11-seeds Seton Hall and New Mexico. This is a two-seed improvement from a week ago.
