Texas football vs ULM: Final score, highlights from Week 4 game

Heisman Trophy candidate Quinn Ewers was out at quarterback for Texas football, and touted backup Arch Manning came in as the starter — at least for one week.

Manning threw two touchdown passes, Jaydon Blue scored four times and the Longhorns' defense dominated as Texas (3-0) rolled to an easy over Louisiana-Monroe in the final nonconference game of the season. Next up for Texas? It's first SEC schedule.

Replay how Manning and the Longhorns dismantled ULM.

Final: Texas 51, ULM 3

The Texas offense was more explosive than efficient, and coach Steve Sarkisian won't like the turnovers. But the defense looked downright dominant while holding ULM to 111 total yards. Things will get tougher in the SEC, but the Longhorns end their nonconference schedule looking like a true contender.

8:24 4Q: Texas 51, ULM 3

Ryan Niblett, the former wide receiver who moved to running back after a spate of preseason injuries at the position, gets his first career touchdown from 1 yard out. The sophomore has run hard this game, picking up 11 yards on three carries and grabbing one reception for another 11 yards.

14:46 4Q: Texas 44, ULM 3

Running back Jaydon Blue gets his fourth touchdown of the game, this one a 1-yard run right behind center Jake Majors and guards DJ Campbell and Hayden Conner. The interior line has been getting a major push all game.

End 3Q: Texas 37, ULM 3

The Longhorns are knocking at the door again. Can Jaydon Blue get a fourth touchdown? Will we soon see No. 3 quarterback Trey Owens? That's about the only drama left in this game.

4:24 3Q: Texas 37, ULM 3

Linebackers Liona Lefau and Mo Blackwell Jr. swarm ULM Ozzario Smith in the end zone for a 1-yard loss and a safety. The Texas defense has allowed 99 total yards in a dominant effort, and the season's first safety is a fitting reward.

5:28 3Q: Texas 35, ULM 3

One of the biggest cheers of the second half goes up in the Royal-Memorial crowd when the stadium shows highlights of Tennessee's game at Oklahoma. The Vols lead Oklahoma 22-3 in the second half, leading to a predictable chant by the Texas fans that's often seen on T-shirts around campus.

11:04 3Q: Texas 35, ULM 3

The running game expands the lead for the Longhorns on their first drive of the second half. Jaydon Blue now has 110 yards on a career-high 20 carries, becoming the first Texas player to top 100 yards in a game this season. Jerrick Gibson, better knows as Baby Rhino, horns his way intio the end zoen from 3 yards out for his third rushing TD of the season.

Halftime: Texas 28, ULM 3

The only downside for Arch Manning in a half that includes 214 yards and two TDs passing? He's thrown two interceptions tonight, including one late in the first half when he tried to zip a short pass to Jaydon Blue that bounced off the back's hands. But defensiev tackle Alfred Collins gets a hand on a 45-yard field-goal try by Max Larson, and Texas races into the lockerroom with the comfortable lead.

1:46 2Q: Texas 28, ULM 3

Max Larson boots home a 35-yard field goal for the Warhawks. No shutout for Texas tonight. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian shows a certain amount of ruthlessness by taking a timeout; let's see how Arch Manning manages a 2-minute offense.

8:15 2Q: Texas 28, ULM 0

Running back Jaydon Blue punches in his third TD of the game, this one a 2-yard run. Arch Manning set up the score with some more deep shots, including a 46-yard bomb to Matthew Golden. Here's a fun fact on the five longest pass plays of the season for Texas:

75: Arch Manning to Ryan Wingo vs. UTSA

56: Arch Manning to Isaiah Bond vs. ULM

51: Arch Manning to Isaiah Bond vs. UTSA

49: Quinn Ewers to Gunnar Helm vs. UTSA

46: Arch Manning to Matthew Golden vs. ULM

End 1Q: Texas 21, ULM 0

Arch Manning has shaken off an early interception to throw for 138 yards and two TDs on 8-of-12 passing, and the ULM offense has just 27 yards on 13 snaps as Texas looks every bit the No. 1 team in this week's Associated Press poll.

1:34 1Q: Manning to Wingo and Texas lead grows

Arch Manning and freshman receiver Ryan Wingo continue to flash their chemistry. Wingo caught two passes for 42 yards on the Longhorns' most recent scoring drive, including a 17-yard score. Texas is scoring early and often, and Manning has 138 yards and two TDs on 8-of-12 passing.

5:28 1Q: Anthony Hill gets first career INT, Blue gets second TD

Anthony Hill Jr, the sophomore middle linebacker, gets his first career interception after dropping back and snagging a General Booty pass in the flat. He returns it for a touchdown, but a block in the back on Trey Moore negates the score. But the interception stands, and Arch Manning finds running back Jaydon Blue for a 3-yard TD pass. That's already two touchdowns for Blue.

7:11 1Q: Manning sets up TD run by Jaydon Blue

Arch Manning quickly atones for his early interception with a beautiful 56-yard bomb to Isaiah Bond that sets up a 1-yard touchdown run by Jaydon Blue, his first rushing TD of the season.

12:17 1Q: Arch Manning throws first career INT

Maybe the redshirt sophomore quarterback is human after all. A week after throwing for 223 yards and four TDs on 9-of-12 passing, Arch Manning throws his first career interception. That was an ill-advised toss toward Matthew Golden into double coverage, and ULM defensive back Carl Fauntroy proved more than eager to take advanteg of that mistake.

Jaydon Blue gets the start at RB

After missing last week's win over UTSA with an ankle injury, running back Jaydon Blue returns to the starting linuep. The junior from the Houston suburb of Klein has 79 yards on 20 carries and 74 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions this season.

Safety Derek Williams Jr. to miss game

As expected, starting quarterback Quinn Ewers has officially been ruled out for today’s game by Texas officials. But safety Derek Williams Jr. will also miss the game with a hamstring injury, which comes as a surprise since the 6-foot-2, 195-pound sophomore didn't come up when discussing injuries this week with Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. Williams has rotated in a free safety with Michael Taaffe all season and has seven tackles and an interception.

Running backs Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner, who were deemed "day to day" earlier in the week by Sarkisian, are warming up.

Texas ready for former OU quarterback General Booty

ULM quarterback General Booty has helped bring some much-needed stability to a Warhawk offense that floundered under former coach Terry Bowden. From 2020 to 2023, the Warhawks never averaged more than 22.3 points, coming in under the 20-point threshold twice. Things look different now. ULM scored 30 points in a season-opening victory over Football Championship Series opponent Jackson State and then pounded Trent Dilfer's UAB team 32-6 in Week 2. The Warhawks have done that by keeping things simple for Booty, who transferred in the offseason from Oklahoma after not throwing a pass in two seasons as a Sooner.

DEFENSE CONTINUES DOMINANCE

Watch some film and the Warhawks’ effort jumps off the screen. But so does a lack of playmaking at receiver and in the secondary, which doesn’t bode well against the Longhorns.

ARCH SUPPORT

No Quinn, no problem. Even without QB1, the Longhorns are still the best team in the country. Arch Manning won’t be asked to go above and beyond because he has a great supporting cast. The Horns will score another defensive touchdown and roar into SEC play with a gang of momentum.

SEC AWAITS - THANFKULLY

The Longhorns haven't been challenged much during nonconference play and that won't change this week against ULM. Expect Texas to put this one away in the first half, and then the countdown to the start of SEC play can begin.

WINNING UGLY, KIND OF

Regularly one of the worst programs in the FBS, ULM seems a level above that this season under new coach Bryant Vincent, who picked up a resounding win in Week 2 over a UAB team he used to coach. Still, this is not a Group of Five program at a stage where it can hope to compete with Texas' talent. This one will be ugly.
