After losing out on a conference championship Wednesday, Texas looks to close out the regular season on a high note.

For its regular-season finale, No. 3 Texas (26-4, 13-4) will host BYU (16-14, 6-11) for the first meeting between the schools since 2002. If the Longhorns prevail Saturday (7 p.m. at Moody Center, LHN, 103.1), they'll secure the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament.

Here's what you need to know about the matchup:

Texas will honor Shaylee Gonzales as her old team watches

This being the final regular-season home game, Texas will honor both Khadija Faye and Shaylee Gonzales as part of its senior night activities. Both players transferred to Texas ahead of the 2022-23 season, and they have combined to start exactly 100 games for the Longhorns.

For Gonzales, the past will meet the present Saturday. She spent the first four years of her career at BYU; she ranks 11th in BYU history with 1,555 career points.

"I'm just really excited to play them again," Gonzales said. "Who would have known that it's Texas' last time in the Big 12 and BYU's first time in the Big 12, that I would be on Texas playing them? So it's kind of crazy how it all worked out."

Gonzales is averaging 9.7 points this season and has made a team-high 46 3-pointers. She has started all 66 of UT's games since her arrival.

Large crowd could lead to a large donation

For the third straight season, Texas will attempt to raise money for the Neighborhood Longhorns Program during the last regular-season home game. But there is a catch: Head coach Vic Schaefer has pledged to donate $10,000 of his own money to the program if 10,000 fans show up.

As of Friday morning, additional pledges from others had brought that possible donation to $146,000.

Under Schaefer's direction, Texas also hosted a "10K for 10K" game in 2022 and 2023. The Longhorns drew 12,506 and 10,763 fans for those matchups against Oklahoma State and Baylor. That raised a total of $290,000 for the Neighborhood Longhorns Program.

The 6,354 fans Texas is averaging at its home games rank 12th nationally.

Can Texas contain the nation's top rebounder?

The key statistic in Oklahoma's 71-70 win over Texas on Wednesday was the Sooners' 21-5 edge in offensive rebounding. So the last person Texas probably wants to see right now is BYU forward Lauren Gustin.

BYU's Lauren Gustin leads the nation with 151 offensive rebounds and an average of 15.4 total rebounds.

The 6-foot-1 senior has grabbed a nation-leading 151 offensive rebounds. She's averaging five offensive boards, bested only by LSU standout Angel Reese's 5.8 clip.

Nationally, Gustin leads all Division I players with the 15.4 overall rebounds she's averaging. She also led the country in that category last season. It has been 12 years since the same player has led the country in rebounding in back-to-back seasons (VCU's Courtney Hurt).

"She never stops moving; she's constantly moving. You can't get a butt on her," Schaefer said. "She's really a great player, and again, it's because she plays so hard all the time."

Texas vs. BYU prediction

Texas. The Longhorns won't get to send Gonzales and Faye out with a conference championship, but the seniors should be celebrating a win on their senior night as the team starts to prepare for the postseason.
