Texas basketball enters season ranked No. 19 in AP poll

Texas basketball is ranked No. 19 in The Associated Press’ Preseason Top 25 poll, the wire service announced Monday.

The Longhorns are one of nine SEC teams in the poll, joining Alabama (2), Auburn (11), Tennessee (12), Texas A&M (13), Arkansas (16), Florida (21), Kentucky (23) and Ole Miss (24).

Kansas of the Big 12 tops the poll with 30 of the 60 first-place votes.

The Longhorns went 21-13 a year ago and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Graduation and the transfer portal gutted the squad, which only includes four returning scholarship players.

Head coach Rodney Terry rebuilt the roster with a freshman recruiting class headlined by McDonald’s All-American Tre Johnson as well as a portal haul that features six new arrivals, including former All-SEC wing Tramon Mark from Arkansas.
