Tennessee baseball to host NCAA Tournament regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium

Tennessee baseball is back hosting an NCAA Tournament regional.

The Vols were announced as one of 16 NCAA Tournament regional hosts Sunday by the NCAA. It is the third time Tennessee has been a regional host in the past four seasons. UT's national seed and the entire bracket and pairings will be released at noon ET Monday on ESPN2.

Tennessee is expected to be the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons.

Regionals will take place May 31-June 3. Super regionals are slated for June 7-9 or June 8-10. The College World Series at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, starts June 14.

How Tennessee baseball has fared as a regional host

Tennessee had not hosted a regional since 2005 prior to being named a host in 2021. UT earned the No. 3 national seed and won the regional in three games. Drew Gilbert's walk-off grand slam in the opener lifted UT over Wright State, then the Vols beat Liberty in back-to-back games to advance to the super regional.

The Vols were the No. 1 national seed when they hosted again in 2022. They blitzed through the regional in three games.

Tennessee won two games against LSU in the Knoxville Super Regional to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 2005. UT lost to Notre Dame in the super regional round in 2022 in three games.

How Tennessee baseball earned a national seed

Tennessee was No. 1 in the RPI entering Sunday's SEC Tournament title game. It also was the nation's winningest team with 49 wins, while no other team had more than 45.

The Vols won a share of the SEC regular-season title and advanced deeper into the SEC Tournament than any team that could threaten for the top seed.
