Steve Kerr says Steph Curry will not be back for first round of playoffs

The Golden State Warriors will be without Stephen Curry for the first round of the NBA playoffs. Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters “there’s no way” the two-time MVP will be ready to return at that point.

Curry injured his left knee Saturday. The team announced that he would be re-evaluated in three weeks, giving fans a reason to believe it would be possible for Curry to get back before the start of the playoffs.

That’s unlikely to happen, according to Kerr.

That seems pretty definitive. Kerr says “there’s no way” Curry will return, and then says he and the team need to “be ready to play without him” in the first round.

There are reasons to Warriors fans to be optimistic despite the news. Kerr points out the team dealt with a somewhat similar situation with Kevin Durant last season. Durant recovered to be the MVP of the NBA Finals. He also added that Curry tends to come back “strong” from injuries.

Curry is averaging 26.4 points per game for the Warriors this season. He’s been limited with various injuries throughout the year.
