Steelers HC Mike Tomlin designates Russell Wilson as questionable vs. Broncos
When the inactives report is released Sunday afternoon, expect Russell Wilson to be on it again as an emergency quarterback.
"Regarding Russell's availability, I'm going to list him as questionable. Obviously, if his availability is questionable, then starting is less-so," Tomlin told Steelers reporters on Friday.
It comes as no surprise that Mike Tomlin designated Wilson as questionable in the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 2 matchup with the Denver Broncos. Tomlin stated earlier this week that the team was preparing for Justin Fields to get his second consecutive start.
Wilson has been sidelined with a calf injury he's battled since the start of training camp. According to Gerry Dulac, Steelers insider for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin and staff are being extra cautious so that it doesn't turn into an Achilles problem, which most commonly occurs where the calf muscle joins the tendon.
Dulac said the Steelers plan to start Fields this week and in their Week 3 home opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.
