Richwoods pitching duo voted Peoria's high school athletes of the week

Cameron Hayes and Jarek Quinn of the Richwoods baseball team were voted Journal Star athlete of the week.

The Knights pitching duo combined to throw 14 shutout innings in a pair of victories last week. Hayes scattered seven hits and struck out four in a 6-0 win over Normal West last Monday. The junior helped his cause with an RBI as part of a seven-hit attack for Richwoods. Hayes has now gone 21 innings in a row without allowing a run. Quinn then stepped in on Tuesday, twirling a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in beating Limestone, 3-0. The sophomore has now pitched 14 successive innings without allowing an earned run.

Blaine Williams, Tremont baseball

Williams put together an incredible three-game stretch. The Illinois recruit was a single short of the cycle in last Tuesday's 8-4 win over Le Roy. He finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple and a home run, while driving in a pair. Williams added a 2-for-3 day with a pair of stolen bases in Saturday's 1-0 loss to Eureka. On the week, the junior catcher was .750 (6-for-8) with a double, two triples, a homer and three RBIs.

Addi Pacha, Metamora softball

What a week for Pacha. The junior outfielder hit .733 on 11 hits and posted a 2.400 OPS with two doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs, seven runs and a stolen base as part of three victories. But Pacha, who had two games where she went 4-for-4 from the plate, came up big in a 16-1 win over Limestone on Friday, hitting three home runs and driving in eight.

Payton Swanson, Washington softball

Swanson had an impressive week at the plate. The freshman second baseman hit .750 on six hits with three doubles, one triple, two walks, six runs and three RBIs. She came up big in Saturday's 12-1 five-inning victory over Bloomington as part of the 50 years of Washington softball celebration. Swanson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as part of the Panthers having 12 hits.

Carter Kendall, Morton boys tennis

Kendall made a run to the Mid-Illini Conference title and picked up a milestone victory in the process. The senior was seeded second in Mid-Illini tournament and knocked off No. 1 seed Alex Fei of Dunlap in the No. 1 Singles title match. Kendall dropped the opening set but came back to win the match including a 6-2 victory in the clinching third set. The win also gave Kendall his 100th career victory.

Kamar Sanders, Limestone boys track and field

The junior put together an impressive Mid-Illini Conference meet last week. His 29.5 points scored were more than any other athlete at the league's conference championship last Tuesday. Sanders won the long jump (22 feet, 5.75 inches) and 200-meter dash (22.45 seconds). He was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash (10.94 seconds) as well as being a part of the third-place 4x100-meter relay (43.79 seconds) with Logan Smallwood, Justin Trammell and Artez Howard-Dunigan.

Lena Jackson, Richwoods girls track and field

Jackson became a four-event Class 3A state qualifier last week. The Knights junior will run the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, while anchoring both the 4x100-meter and 4x200 meter relays. Jackson won the 100 in 12.21 seconds and took fourth in the 200 (25.30 seconds). She then helped Richwoods take second in the 4x100 (48.11 seconds) with Brianna Johnson, Jessy Tran and Madi Franklin. Jackson then ran with Tran, Elianna Keyes and Jaydah Green in the 4x200 (1:42.84).
