South Carolina's Dawn Staley back home in Philadelphia to celebrate Olympic jersey release

COLUMBIA — The Philadelphia-based clothing company Mitchell & Ness created a line of jerseys to honor the 2004 USA women's basketball team and had star point guard Dawn Staley greet fans at the store in Philly to celebrate on Tuesday.

The South Carolina women's basketball coach is one of four athletes from the 2004 USA Olympic team whose jersey is available for purchase. The collection includes shorts, in addition to Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes and Tamika Catchings jerseys. Items from can be purchased on the company's website. Jerseys are listed at $135.

Staley, a Philadelphia native, greeted fans at the flagship store from noon-2 p.m. on Tuesday.

After the event, she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, "when I tell you I just had a time in Philly…..my high school Dobbins and PA state senators showered with with so much love. Thank you! My visit with the good folks at Mitchell & Ness and my fellow Philly and wbb peeps showed out! Thanks for the incredible LOVE…I’m full!"

Staley has played in three summer Olympic games, in 1996, 2000 and 2004. August marks the 20-year anniversary of this team's gold medal win.

On March 10, 2017, Staley was named coach of the USA Basketball women’s national team through the Tokyo Olympics, where she coached the U.S. to a seventh-straight Olympic gold medal. Staley also was the 2018 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year.
