South Carolina women's basketball's Joyce Edwards named FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup MVP
South Carolina women's basketball incoming freshman Joyce Edwards carried her team to gold on Sunday night.
Edwards led the United States in the 2024 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, defeating Canada 80-69 in the final game in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Edwards averaged 14.2 points per game leading the U.S. team and earned the Tournament MVP award. In the win over Canada, Edwards had 16 points, 13 rebounds and five steals.
This was the second international gold medal for Edwards. She helped the United States. win gold at the 2023 U19 World Cup in Spain last summer.

Edwards joins the Gamecocks from Camden, South Carolina, where she played four years at Camden High. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 31.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals, four assists and three blocks per game her senior season. She led Camden to Class AAA state championship.
She was named the 2023-24 National Gatorade Player of the Year and a 2024 McDonald’s All-American and Naismith First Team All-American. In June, she was named 2023-24 MaxPreps Female National Athlete of the Year.
Edwards committed to South Carolina in November.
