South Carolina football QB LaNorris Sellers out vs Akron, Robby Ashford will start | Report
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football quarterback LaNorris Sellers will not play on Saturday vs Akron (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU) according to a report made by college football reporter Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports on Friday night.
Sellers injured an ankle right before halftime against LSU last week and played in only one drive in the second half of the game for the Gamecocks (2-1) before backup Robby Ashford took over. Ashford will reportedly start Saturday night vs the Zips (1-2).
South Carolina is expected to start Auburn transfer Robby Ashford at QB vs. Akron tomorrow, sources tell @247Sports/@CBSSports.

Sellers assured South Carolina coach Shane Beamer earlier this week that he would be good to go for the game and Beamer repeated that to media during his weekly availability on Tuesday.
On his "Carolina Calls" radio show Thursday evening, Beamer said Sellers had been progressing nicely throughout practice, getting "better each day."
With Ashford starting, Davis Beville and Luke Doty are in the mix for the new backup option, according to Beamer. Doty has played quarterback for South Carolina before. Beville, a graduate of Greenville High, played three seasons at Pittsburgh before playing the last two years at Oklahoma. He's played in 16 college games total.
