SEC releases basketball schedule: Texas to open conference play against Texas A&M
Texas men's basketball will tip off its first SEC schedule in style Jan. 4 with a visit to rival Texas A&M.
The Southeastern Conference released its men’s basketball league schedule on Tuesday for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Each SEC team plays the other 15 teams at least once during league play. Three teams will be played a second time during the schedule, two of which are permanent opponents and one that will change each year. Texas A&M and Oklahoma have been selected as the permanent conference rivals for Texas, fulfilling a vow by SEC officials to retain historic rivalries in a conference now expanded to 16 schools.

The SEC will finalize its midweek schedule at a later date.
The 2025 SEC men’s basketball tournament will take place March 12-16 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
Texas also has some compelling nonconference games this upcoming season. The Longhorns will open the year Nov. 4 in Las Vegas against Ohio State and compete in the the 2024 Legends Classic at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., where they will face Syracuse in the semifinals followed by a game against either Saint Joseph’s or Texas Tech.

The marquee nonconference matchup comes Dec. 8 at Moody Center against visiting Connecticut, which has won the past two national championships. Texas will play the Huskies in a home-and-home series over the next two seasons
Texas went 21-13 a year ago and lost to new SEC foe Tennessee in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament, but head coach Rodney Terry rebuilt his roster in the offseason with six transfers and a trio of freshmen. The new portal arrivals include Arthur Kaluma (Kansas State), Malik Presley (Vanderbilt), Jordan Pope (Oregon State), Tramon Mark (Arkansas), Julian Larry (Indiana State) and Jayson Kent (Indiana State). The freshmen include center Jamie Vinson, power forward Nic Codie and shooting guard Tre Johnson, one of the top prospects in the nation.
