Seahawks sign DT Kyon Barrs, waive WR Marcus Simms
The Seattle Seahawks are doing their best to ensure their defensive line is plenty deep for 2024, and to avoid the struggles of the last two years. On Wednesday, the team signed former Arizona and USC defensive tackle Kyon Barr. The young man was previously undrafted.
Barr started his collegiate career with the Arizona Wildcats and spent hisfirst four years in Tuscon. His final season was as a Trojan with USC where he logged 18 total tackles as a senior. Barr finished college with 120 total tackles and five sacks.
Unfortunately, in order to make room for Barr on the 90-man roster, it meant the end of wide receiver Marcus Simms' short stint in Seattle. Simms was signed by the Seahawks in mid-July after an explosive season in the UFL.
Barr will get his first shot to prove he belongs with the Seahawks longer than a training camp session on Saturday, when Seattle hosts the Los Angeles Chargers.
Seattle's defensive line room is getting quite crowded. There are limited spaces and it will be a considerable battle over the next few weeks to survive roster cuts. At this point, the preseason is more about second string, third string, and bubble players auditioning for their team... and the rest of the league as a whole.
