Sally Field is trying to set up her son with 'Olympic prince' Adam Rippon
Sally Field sports one of the most impressive CVs in show business, with Oscars, Emmys and Golden Globes to accompany her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now, the woman best known for her roles as Gidget, Forrest Gump’s mom and Spider Man’s Aunt May is hoping to add another media-friendly role to her résumé: Winter Olympics matchmaker.
Field’s youngest son, Sam Greisman, has been an active and unabashed Twitter admirer of U.S. figure skating darling Adam Rippon throughout the PyeongChang Games. In fact, Greisman — a 30-year-old writer, producer and director in his own right — has been tweeting about the 28-year-old first-time Olympian and bronze medalist since before the Games began.
Ugh. Just realized how terrible it’s gonna be when the basic girls discover Adam Rippon.

Greisman seemed to particularly appreciate Rippon’s efforts to troll Vice President Mike Pence, who attended the Opening Ceremony in PyeongChang.
Queens of driving Pence wild. Both sexually and with anger.

Rippon’s desire to make Reese Witherspoon proud apparently transformed him into Greisman’s official Olympic crush.
So, @RWitherspoon, did @Adaripp make you proud? pic.twitter.com/CgMSzm1COg

Welp. Now I’m in love with him. That was fast. https://t.co/subCYzGiNR

Less than two days later, Greisman was prepared to pop the question to Rippon.
Gonna need a gif of @Adaripp saying he just wants to focus on being America’s Sweetheart for my daily use. Please and thank you.
Also marry me Adam.

Later that day, Field started laying the foundation for her son when she tweeted at Rippon in support of his comments against Pence.
I personally have nothing to say to Mike Pence. Given the chance to talk after the Olympics, I would want to bring with me people who’s lives have been hurt by legislation he has championed.
— Adam Rippon (@Adaripp) January 20, 2018
You’re amazing @Adaripp. Your Olympics won’t be about Mike Pence. They will be about your excellence and your grace. And all the young boys and girls you’re inspiring. https://t.co/h5CEGvyYc4

Where so many children might have been embarrassed by their parent’s attempts to set them up, Greisman welcomed his mom’s efforts on social media.
She's working on getting me that date… https://t.co/QYojjdE6Id
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 13, 2018
She’ll do what she has to do. She’s not the worst wing woman.
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 14, 2018
Greisman, perhaps emboldened by Field’s intervention, proceeded to unleash a fresh flow of flattery, albeit without entirely flooding Rippon’s mentions.
But what if Adam wins gold and Timmy wins the Oscar…
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 14, 2018
So boys, where're we watching @Adaripp tonight?
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 15, 2018
Rippon finished seventh in the men’s single figure skating short program, but still wound up with gold in Greisman’s heart.
Nothing but respect for my Olympic prince.
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 16, 2018
I hate being earnest but an openly, “non-passing”, sassy, beautiful gay 20-something daring America not to love him and becoming the sweetheart of the Olympic Games is very moving to me.
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 16, 2018
Twitter’s love of Greisman’s lavish praise spurred him to ask for more help connecting with his crush.
Glad so many people liked this, but if you could slide it into Adam's DMs that would be great too.
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 16, 2018
Naturally, Field stepped in with some encouragement that went viral …
Just some really helpful advice from my mom on how to deal with my Olympic crush. pic.twitter.com/shYCXwNOMf
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 17, 2018
… before taking more direct action to foster first contact—perhaps to Greisman’s chagrin.

— Sally Field (@sally_field) February 17, 2018
Yikes.
— sam greisman (@SAMGREIS) February 17, 2018
As of this writing, Rippon had yet to respond publicly to Greisman and Field’s entreaties. You can bet we’ll be here for it when he does.
